Tyler “Hype” Jackson is a Baltimore phenom and the number 1 point guard prospect in the class of 2025. Hailing from St. Frances Academy, he is garnering attention as one of the best guards in the nation, and for good reason. Playing alongside two high major wings Jahnathan LaMothe (Maryland) and Carlton Carrington (Pitt) last season, Jackson was often the finest player on the floor as a sophomore.

More importantly, Jackson’s demeanor and behavior are truly commendable, especially considering his status as a top 10 prospect in his class. On the court, he has proven himself a worthy successor to the legendary Panther point guard Adrian “Ace” Baldwin (VCU/Penn State). Standing at around 6’3″ with a wingspan measuring 6’6.5″, he possesses a great combination of size and length for a point guard. Jackson consistently gets buckets in bunches. In one weekend on he EYBL this summer, he averaged over 30 ppg against elite competition. Plainly stated, his scoring ability is nothing short of extraordinary. With an explosive first step, he can blow past defenders from a standstill position or off the dribble. His ability to change speeds effortlessly makes him very elusive and extremely difficult to guard man to man. In transition, he is an absolute blur with the ball, racing past opponents to finish above the rim regularly. Jackson will bang it on bigger men. Moreover, his tight handle and variety of dribble moves allow him to break down defenders and get to the rim at will.

While his 3-point jumper is still a work in progress, Jackson is already a highly proficient mid-range shooter off the dribble. His mechanics are sound, and he gets good elevation, allowing him to release the ball high, which bodes well for future development. With continued practice and refinement, his 3-point shooting range and consistency will improve over time.

As a point guard, Jackson has outstanding potential as a playmaker. He possesses excellent court vision and an ability to see over the top of defenses due to his height. Ahmad Nowell’s commitment ceremony was a resounding success, reflecting the magnitude of the occasion and the significance of his decision. PHILADELPHIA, PA – July 21, 2023 – Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and the world of basketball mourns the passing of one of its legendary figures, Ralphal “Rap” Curry. Roaming county gyms from 1987 to 1990, Rap Curry etched his name in the annals of Delco basketball history as one of its greatest players, forever changing the game with his unique blend of skills and intelligence.

Standing tall at 6’4″ and weighing 190 pounds, Rap Curry was a visionary on the hardwood. He revolutionized the role of the point guard, showcasing an array of moves and skills well ahead of his time. His ball-handling wizardry, mastery of the crossover dribble, in-and-out moves, and step-back jump shot made him a formidable force on the court. His presence marked the transition to the modern era of basketball in Delaware County.

The Curry Family

Rap’s high school journey was nothing short of phenomenal. Carrying the Penn Wood High School team on his back, he led them to regional and national prominence, earning accolades as a consensus top 100 player in the nation. His talent and dedication earned him a spot at Saint Joseph’s University, where he played under the tutelage of John Griffin, Sr.

In college, Rap Curry formed an unstoppable backcourt duo with fellow freshman guard Bernard Blunt. The Saint Joseph’s team, under Rap’s leadership, immediately transformed from an afterthought into a must-see spectacle for basketball enthusiasts. Unfortunately, fate dealt a cruel blow when Rap suffered a devastating knee injury during his college career, prematurely ending what would have surely been a long and highly productive NBA journey.

Despite the injury, Rap Curry’s legacy remained indelible. His outstanding performance at Saint Joseph’s University earned him a spot in the esteemed Big 5 Hall of Fame. With 1,372 points and a remarkable 580 assists, Rap set the bar high for future players, only to be surpassed later by the legendary Jameer Nelson.

Following his graduation from St. Joseph’s, Rap Curry continued to contribute to the sport he loved. He transitioned to coaching, where he imparted his knowledge and passion for the game to the next generation of athletes at Penn Wood High School. After three years on the sidelines, he assumed the role of the school’s athletic director, dedicating 18 years to nurturing young talents and fostering a love for sports within the community.

Outside the court, Rap Curry was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Gina, and a proud father to their three beautiful children. His love for family and the community was evident in all he did, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Viewership for the LSU/Iowa championship game increased 103% over the 2022 title game. She is an uber elite rebounder who can handle and pass with the very best wings in the nation.

Caitlin Clark, on the other hand, gets buckets at a prodigious rate. Along with Steph Curry and Damian Lillard, she possesses otherworldly shooting range. It’s pretty much a fact that Clark is one of the greatest shooter to ever play college basketball, male or female. With a lighting quick release she can shoot over the entire defense with ease. Contested 30 footers are like layups for her. Clark’s heat check is something else. A tremendously crafty offensive player, Clark can break down her defenders in a multitude of ways. She’s really one of the most entertaining players to watch if you’re not a huge basketball fan. With their contrasting styles, Reese/Clark duels have become must-watch events, attracting casual sports fans and igniting a sense of pride and loyalty among their respective fan bases.

By showcasing her skills, discipline, and achievements, she helps dispel limiting beliefs and inspires others to defy societal expectations. Finally, Reese’s involvement in the community can motivate young girls to excel both academically and athletically. Wilt Chamberlain: Showtime Sports Documents His Mythical Journey Through Jim Crow America

PHILADELPHIA, PA – July 13, 2023 – Philadelphia’s native son, Wilt Chamberlain, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, led a remarkably complex life, navigating the cultural, social, legal and emotional challenges present in an overtly racist Apartheid America. Throughout his career, Chamberlain faced numerous obstacles, both on and off the court, and his journey sheds much needed light on the complexities of race, achievement, and personal choices made by prominent Black Americans in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Finally, Chamberlain has received a cinematic examination worthy of the subject.

Showtime Sports will air Goliath, a docuseries examining the historic life, career and impact of, perhaps, the greatest athlete of the 20th century. Set to air as a three episode documentary, Goliath is directed by Rob Ford (The Cost of Winning) and Christopher Dillon (A Crime to Remember). It will debut on demand and on streaming on July 14 for all Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers before making its on-air debut on Showtime on July 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with episodes premiering each Sunday.

Today, I had the privilege of joining Chamberlain’s family and about 100 other dignitaries for a private screening of Episode 2 of the trilogy at the AMC Theater adjacent to the campus of Temple University.

After dominating scholastic basketball in the Philadelphia Public League at Overbrook High School, Chamberlain spurned over 200 other scholarship offers and chose to play at the University of Kansas. While donning the Jayhawk uniform, Chamberlain was a consensus All-American in 1957 and 1958 and Most Outstanding Player of the 1957 NCAA Tournament. However, his path to basketball stardom was not without its hurdles. In 1957, while playing for Kansas, he led his team to the NCAA National Championship game against the University of North Carolina. However, they suffered a heartbreaking loss in triple overtime. This devastating defeat fueled Chamberlain’s desire to prove himself at the professional level, prompting him to make a significant decision.

Unable to join the NBA immediately, Chamberlain opted to play for the Harlem Globetrotters, a wildly popular predominantly Black barnstorming team. The Globetrotters were well known for their emphasis on entertaining and showmanship. This move was not without controversy, as some questioned his motives and the impact it would have on his career. However, Chamberlain saw this as an opportunity to hone his skills and elevate his game before stepping onto the grand stage of the NBA.

Chamberlain’s arrival in the NBA brought both admiration and criticism. His extraordinary athleticism and dominant play quickly earned him a reputation as the most talented player in the league. However, his prodigious individual statistics, such as illogical scoring records and stupefying rebounding numbers, led to accusations of selfishness and a lack of team focus. This perception was further reinforced by his repeated playoff losses to the Boston Celtics, led by the legendary Bill Russell.

It wasn’t until Chamberlain found himself on a team with comparable talent that he was able to capture the ultimate prize. In 1967, as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers, he finally won his first NBA championship. This victory was followed by another championship in 1972 when Chamberlain was part of the star-studded Los Angeles Lakers roster. These triumphs demonstrated that, given the right circumstances, Chamberlain could indeed achieve team success.

Beyond the basketball court, Chamberlain’s personal life was equally complex. He was often portrayed as a womanizer. At one point, he was quoted as saying that he had slept with as many as 20,000 women. While this led to him being maligned by some as a mere womanizer, The documentary acknowledges, in great detail, Chamberlain’s contributions to women’s sports. He was a generous benefactor for women’s volleyball and track and field, supporting female athletes financially and providing them with opportunities to excel.

Chamberlain’s complexity extended beyond sports and into his political beliefs. He actively supported the civil rights movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., recognizing the importance of racial equality and justice. However, his political affiliation as a Black Republican and his open campaigning for Richard Nixon raised eyebrows and sparked debates about his motivations and ideological leanings.

The life of Wilt Chamberlain serves as a compelling narrative of a man who transcended the barriers of his time. His ability to achieve greatness within the confines of a racially oppressive society highlights his resilience and determination. Chamberlain’s basketball career, though marred by controversial narratives, ultimately revealed his undeniable talent and ability to adapt when surrounded by the right supporting cast.

It is essential to view Chamberlain’s life holistically, recognizing the multifaceted nature of his achievements and choices. While his reputation as a womanizer and his political beliefs might be viewed as contradictory, they underline the complexities of his character. Khaafiq Myers, South Philly PG: A Scouting Report

CAMDEN, NJ – July 6, 2023 – It was the summer of 2011, I was watching the Sonny Hill League High School playoffs. South Philly was strong as usual. John Davis (Neumann-Goretti), BJ Johnson (Lower Merion), Junior Fortunat (Roman Catholic) and Biggie Minnis (Atlantic Christian) were some of the headliners for a South Philly franchise that had been passed down from Claude Gross and Tee Shields to Arthur “Bunky” Russell. While we were in the Audenried Gym adjacent to I-76 and not on Broad Street at McGonigle Hall, the Hill League was still the THE Hill League.

During a break in the action, Biggie Minnis’ Mom, Chandra walked a skinny, tiny little kid over to me and said “we got one more Del… One last Myers coming through.” With that, I was introduced to Khaafiq Myers. With Chandra’s stamp, he was officially on the Black Cager radar screen. After all, she’s seen every single one of the great South Philly Ballers of the past 40 years. Shit… She grew up in the same house with some of toughest customers to emerge from Da P.

Over the past 12 years, I’ve watched that skinny little boy grow up and become a bonafide backcourt bully. Khaafiq Myers is now entering his final year of high school basketball. Despite his relatively small stature, standing at around 5’11” and weighing only 160 pounds, he has established a well-earned reputation for dominating opposing guards over the past two years. His aggressive style of play, exceptional lateral quickness, and defensive tenacity make him a force to be reckoned with on the court. He’s known for taking the ball in the open court in a very disrespectful manner. His ability to impose his will on opponents has often left them hesitant to even dribble the ball up the court.


Strengths:

Lateral Quickness and Defensive Tenacity: Khaafiq’s outstanding lateral quickness enables him to stay in front of his man effectively. His relentless defensive pressure often disrupts opponents’ offensive sets and forces turnovers, showcasing his defensive tenacity.

Floor General and Playmaking: As a point guard, he possesses excellent court vision and decision-making skills. He consistently demonstrates his ability to read defenses, penetrate the lane, and find open teammates with crisp passes. His playmaking abilities contribute significantly to his team’s offensive success.

Penetration and Pressure on Defense: Khaafiq’s skill in beating defenders off the dribble allows him to penetrate the lane effectively. This puts tremendous pressure on the defense, often leading to opportunities for scoring or creating open shots for his teammates.

Areas for Improvement:
Inconsistent Jump Shooting: Although the South Philly point guard excels in various aspects of the game, his jump shooting remains inconsistent. Developing a more reliable jump shot will be crucial for his growth as a player. Improving his shooting percentages, particularly from the free-throw line and beyond the arc, will increase his overall offensive effectiveness.

College Prospects: If Khaafiq can address this weaknesses and improve his shooting percentages, he has the potential to become a legitimate mid-major plus or high-major college prospect. Meeting the benchmarks of shooting above 75 percent from the free-throw line and north of 40 percent from the three-point range would significantly enhance his value as a scorer and playmaker. College coaches would be drawn to his defensive prowess, leadership qualities, and ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates.

Recommendations:
Shooting Development: The player should dedicate significant time to developing his jump shot. Consistent practice and guidance from shooting coaches will help him refine his shooting technique and increase his shooting percentages. Improving his mechanics, shot selection, and shot release will lead to a more reliable and consistent shooting stroke.

Strength and Conditioning: Given his slight stature, adding strength and muscle mass will enhance his ability to withstand physical play and finish at the rim against bigger opponents. Focusing on strength and conditioning training, along with proper nutrition, will improve his overall athleticism and durability.

Basketball IQ and Decision Making: Continuously working on his basketball IQ and decision-making skills will allow him to make better choices on the court. Studying game film, learning from experienced coaches, and analyzing different offensive and defensive strategies will further enhance his understanding of the game.

Conclusion: Khaafiq, the last in a long line of tough and savvy Myers guards, is a formidable force on the basketball court. His combination of defensive intensity, playmaking abilities, and penetrative skills make him a valuable asset to any team. By addressing his inconsistent jump shooting and continuing to refine his overall game, he has the potential to excel at the collegiate level. College coaches will be enticed by his defensive prowess, leadership qualities, and ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. With focused development and continued improvement, Khaafiq Myers has the opportunity to make a significant impact early in his career at the next level

PHILADELPHIA, PA – July 6, 2023 – President Joe Biden on Tuesday said gun violence was tearing apart U.S. communities after horrific mass shootings in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Fort Worth claimed the lives of at least 10 people ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Much more action is needed to “address the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing our communities apart,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House. That same day, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said, “this is like a level of insanity that no one should ever deal with.” One concerned young scholar-athlete has decided to engage his peers in this important conversation.

Wilson Park, a hardscrabble neighborhood in South Philadelphia, has been the birthplace of many remarkable stories of resilience and triumph. Today, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of “No Place Like Home: We Have Unfinished Business,” a compelling memoir written by Temple University basketball star, Hysier Miller. This deeply personal account chronicles Miller’s journey and the pivotal decision to remain at Temple when faced with adversity, inspiring young Black males and addressing the urgent issue of gun violence in Philadelphia and beyond.


Hailing from Wilson Park, a gritty neighborhood plagued by crime and ceaseless violence, Miller defied the odds to become a standout college basketball player at Temple University.
