Sign the Damn Transfer Papers!

Stink-Stink is 15 years old… All his life, he has done just enough to get by… He NEVER does homework… He NEVER truly studies…

As a result, he has a 1.5 Grade Point Average at the end of his sophomore year at SouthWest Philly High. SW Philly HS is a traditional neighborhood school. Most of the kids live in the community immediately surrounding the school. The 4-year graduation rate at SW Philly HS is 47%… The 4-year graduation rate for Black males is 26%…

Stink-Stink is a Black male…

While he never really took basketball seriously, he was always gifted. He could flat out score. Whether it was playing late night money games with the Ol’ Heads from the projects or unlimited summer league games ’round the way… Stink-Stink got buckets!

As a 9th grader, he averaged 17 ppg and he didn’t even really understand the plays. His relationship with his coach was strained because Stink-Stink was frequently absent from or late getting to school. It was a constant struggle to get him to submit class assignments on time. Never disrespectful to teachers or administrators, Stink-Stink just didn’t take school seriously…

That summer, a scout from Philly Funk, the Converse sponsored AAU program, approached Stink-Stink and got him to play with their 16U team. Flying for the first time in his life, Stink-Stink played in Chicago, Memphis, Houston and Las Vegas over the summer… He was truly grateful… Stink-Stink had never stayed in a hotel before those trips…

Highly motivated… He showed his ass!

Going against the top rated guards in the country, he repeatedly scored 25 or more in big games… More than the point totals, it was the way he did it… NASTY!! No screens… No back doors… Off the dribble, crossovers, in and outs, floaters, step-backs, to the left, to the right…

His self-esteem and confidence was through the roof…

When he returned to SW Philly HS, he was unstoppable… He took basketball very seriously now… He got to school early and put up 200 jumpers… He lifted weights… He watched film… He was learning his craft…

He tore the Pub up… As a sophomore he averaged 24 ppg… He had three games of 40 or more…

One of his Philly Funk coaches, Big Earl, got an assistant coaching job at Uptown Charter School…

Uptown Charter has won 6 State Championships over the past 8 years… They have sent 24 kids to D1 programs over that span…

Big Earl explained to Stink-Stink’s Grandmom that SW Philly HS hasn’t had any kids go D1 in basketball in 15 years… Big Earl explained that the avg. SAT score at SW Philly HS is 680… He told Grandmom that Stink-Stink would have to score at least 900 IF he was able to raise his GPA from 1.5 to 2.3 in order to accept a scholarship… The average score at Uptown Charter is 860…

Big Earl showed his Grandmom that St. Joseph’s is $55,000 per year and $220,000 over 4-years… Drexel is $70,000 per year and $280,000 over 4-years…

Big Earl suggested that Grandmom transfer Stink-Stink from SW Philly to Uptown…

Grandmom told Big Earl to go to Graterford and talk to Stink-Stink’s Dad about it… Big Earl made the trip… Done deal…

When Grandmom submitted the transfer papers, the SW Philly coach refused to sign off… Fuck is wrong this dude?

The Guidance Counselor grilled Grandmom… “Are you doing this for athletic reasons?”

Grandmom said, “I’m doing what’s best for my grandson…”

“But is it for athletic reasons? I’m worried about SW Philly’s program… I’m tired of the big Charters taking their best players.”

Grandmom replied, “With all due respect sweetheart, I don’t give a FUCK about the SW Philly program… I’m worried about my grandson… His Mom is strung out doing who knows what, who knows where and his Dad is locked up… I’m trying to put him in position to get a scholarship… His GPA is 1.5 here… He needs a fresh start at Uptown Charter!”

The Guidance Counselor signed the papers…

South Carolina’s Sedee Keita Transferring

Columbia, South Carolina – May 26, 2017 – University of South Carolina freshman power forward, Sedee Keita (WeRone Hoops/22ft Academy), has announced his intention to transfer. After sitting out a year, as required by the NCAA, Keita will have 3 full seasons of eligibility left.

A key reserve as a freshman, Keita played in 29 games during rookie campaign.  He posted averages 1.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 9.6 minutes per game. In SEC play, he saw action in 14 games, posting 0.7 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.

His offensive output was hampered by a wrist injury that caused him to miss the first four games of the season. Keita tallied a season high seven points in win over Lander (Dec. 27), and pulled down a season high seven rebounds in non-conference finale at Memphis (Dec. 30)

He played a season high 28 minutes at No. 13/12 Florida (Feb. 21), posting two points with six rebounds. He also collected two blocks in Elite Eight win over No. 20/17 Florida (March 26).

Keita immediately becomes one of the best available power forwards in the nation. South Carolina Head Coach signed Keita’s release without any restrictions.

Keita is an athletic power forward who has a strong frame and good mobility and agility for his size. This year he demonstrated an ability to be an excellent post defender. He was a four-star recruit according to ESPN.com and rated the 85th player in the ESPN100. Also a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com and the No. 82 prospect overall.

La Salle and Pittsburgh have expressed an interest in Keita. He will likely hear from programs in all the major conferences.

Jones Resigns from Girard College & Surfaces at Chichester HS

Chichester, Pennsylvania – May 25, 2017 – Chichester High School has named Clyde Jones Head Boys Basketball coach. Jones resigned as Head Coach of Girard College on May 8, 2017.

In his only year leading the Girard College program, Jones led the program to an appearance in the State Championship game. This was Jones’ third appearance in the State Finals. He led Penn Wood to two State Championship appearances, winning one.

One of the most respected scholastic coaches in the region, Jones returns to the Del Val league where he vied for supremacy with Larry Yarbray’s Chester program for many years.

St. Frances Academy (MD) Adds 7 ft. Nigerian Osato Iduwe

Baltimore, Maryland – May 25, 2017 – Black Cager Scouting, Africa has announced that 7’0″, 205 lbs Osato Iduwe (Class of 2019) has enrolled at Saint Frances Academy, Baltimore, Maryland. A mobile and very active rim protector, Iduwe also considered Mater Dei Prep (NJ) and Saint Joseph’s Prep (PA). An excellent student, Iduwe will anchor the middle for Saint Frances during the 2017-18 season.

Established in 1828, St Frances Academy (SFA) is an independent Catholic high school with African American and Hispanic roots. St. Frances Academy serves as an agent of positive change within its inner-city neighborhood.

St. Frances Head Coach Nick Myles says “Iduwe is just a fantastic kid. He’s very humble and hardworking. But, most importantly, he listens. We are pleased to have him join the St. Frances learning community.”

Iduwe is playing with the Maryland-based Crusader Nation AAU program this spring-summer.

Girard College Names Donnie Carr Head Boys Basketball Coach

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – May 24, 2017 – Girard College has named Donnie Carr Head Coach of the Boys Basketball program. Carr is expected to begin working with Girard in June. He will likely coach the team in several area team camps.

Carr notes, “Girard College is truly one of the hidden gems in Philadelphia. The combination of high quality academics, diverse student population and great facilities may be unmatched. I look forward to building upon the tremendous success that Clyde Jones had with the program last year. I really appreciate Clay Armbrister, Henry Fairfax and Bob Jordan entrusting me to lead this program. I’m ready to get to work.”

Most recently, Carr served as the Coordinator of Player Development for Hartford University. In his role, he assisted head coach John Gallagher in helping players improve their games through film and statistical analysis while away from the court.

Longtime St. Joseph’s Assistant Coach, Geoff Arnold said, “This is tremendous hire for Girard. Donnie understand Philadelphia basketball as well as anybody I know. I am confident that he will lead them to a lot of success. I expect Girard to eventually compete with Neumann-Goretti, Roman Catholic, Chester, Imhotep Archbishop Wood and the other top programs in the area.”

Carr joined the Hawks after a stint coaching in the high school and AAU ranks in the Philadelphia area. He coached for Philadelphia’s Team Final on the AAU circuit in the summer of 2015 for the Under-15 squad. He served as an assistant coach in the program for Team Final’s Under-18 team, which is annually one of the top AAU programs in the region. Additionally, he spent time as an assistant coach for the Haverford School, Roman Catholic High School and Holy Family University.

He also spent significant time as a mentor to young players in Philadelphia, particularly spending time with the youths of the Sonny Hill Community Involvement League. Some of the players he mentored include NBA players Rasual Butler and Dion Waiters and college players Traci Carter (Marquette), Scoop Jardine (Syracuse) and Ramone Moore (Temple).

His time as a coach followed an overseas playing career that was cut short by injuries. He spent time playing in both Turkey and France, logging three years as an international pro before being forced to wrapping up his playing career in 2004. He burst onto the Turkish League scene, leading the league in scoring as a rookie for his first three months before eventually finishing third in the league. He played for Turk Telecom, annually one of the top teams in Turkey, and in France for Becanson in 2001-02.

Attending high school at Roman Catholic, the Philadelphia native was one of the most highly-touted players in the nation, where he was noted for his 1-on-1 battles with Kobe Bryant in their high school days.

Carr went on to a tremendous college career at LaSalle, where he was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection and he finished his career with 2,067 points, placing in the top five in both scoring and assists in Explorers history. He led the Atlantic 10 in scoring in his first season, earning Rookie of the Year honors, and finished in the league’s top four in scoring in each of his four years. His 19.7 career points per game average is third in A-10 history among players who played in the league for more than one year.

He is one of the most legendary players in Big 5 history as well, being named First Team All-Big 5 in each of his four seasons and going on to be inducted in the Big 5 Hall of Fame.

The South Philadelphia native is a disciple of Philadelphia Black Basketball Hall of Famer Claude Gross. Carr has two sons, Dymere and Kisaan Carr, and a daughter, Siana Brown-Carr.

Sooooo… Let me get this shit straight…

A kid plays for one of the best Philly High School teams of all-time. Playing alongside legendary ballers like Hank Gathers and Bo Kimble, they dominate Philadelphia scholastic basketball in the mid to late 80s. Wide eyed, with a bright smile he is embraced by the city.

Then he seemlessly transitions to LaSalle. Again, playing alongside a legendary baller, Lionel Simmons, they dominate the MAAC Conference and consistently rank among the best teams in the country.

This guy, Doug Overton, is very high profile. Everybody knows him. In fact he has a Big 5 Hall of Fame career at 20th and Olney. He’s widely recognized as one the “good guys.” He’s always accessible to younger players, fans and the media.

After college, he embarked on a 14 year professional career, 10 of which were spent in the NBA.

Overton’s pro career took him all over the world…

Never, not one time was there ever a question about Doug Overton’s character.

In May 2006, Overton returned to Philly and joined the staff of Philly Coaching legend Phil Martelli at St. Joseph’s as an assistant men’s basketball coach. While on campus for two years there was never even a whiff of inappropriate behavior.

Never…

In 2008, he became an NBA assistant coach with the New Jersey (now Brookyln) Nets. Five years later he was named head coach of the D-League’s Springfield Armor. While he coached at the professional level his conduct was always exemplary. There was never an instance where his judgement was called into question.

Never…

In 2016, my alma mater, Lincoln University needed a basketball coach. I spoke to Overton for countless hours about that job. I encouraged him to apply. I supported his application. Once he was named Lincoln’s coach, Black Cager Sports Media was at the press conference.

Always… At all times Doug Overton conducts himself in a dignified manner. He has a lovely wife and son completing a Bachleor’s degree at Drexel. He’s an outstanding role model for young men in Philadelphia.

But…

While walking his dog on April 30, according to police…

“[Overton] was exposing himself on the Cynwyd Trail. One of the callers told police the man appeared to be touching himself around his genitals. Another witness told police the man’s penis was outside of his pants and that he was continuously looking at a female in the area. The witnesses then told police he was seen walking on the trail with his penis exposed.”

Well… he was taking a piss…

I’ve been pissing for 52 years… For the last 51 of those years I’ve touched myself around my genitals when doing so…

Since I’ve been out of diapers, pissed with my penis outside my pants… Gotta shake it at the end or your draws get wet…

The part where he was continuously looking at a female and walking with his penis exposed?
